We've always heard we need to drink a lot of water but some people swear if you drink a specially treated water it's better for you. Is it really healing water or just another healthy fad? 7's Diana Diaz has the story.

WSVN -- When South Beach restaurant manager Pablo Lucero got strict orders from his doctor to start drinking more water for his health, he couldn't do it.

Pablo Lucero: "He suggested to drink at least a gallon of water. For me it was impossible."

So when the 41-year-old started hearing the buzz about what's called Kangen Water he decided to give it a guzzle.

Pablo Lucero: "The first thing that I noticed is that the water is really, really light. By the time I finished the first gallon I couldn't believe my eyes."

Kangen Water has been used in Japanese hospitals for years, and now the water systems are popping up at restaurants and homes all over South Florida.

Hana Dolgin: "Kangen Water is water that is not only filtered, filtering just takes out contaminants. It's water that goes through an additional process, called ionization."

The water system is simply hooked up to your faucet.

Hana Dolgin: "Inside the machine there are plates made out of medical grade titanium and the machine is plugged into the electricity, so there is a mild electrical charge running through those plates. And when the water flows over those plates it actually restructures the water."

The machine takes tap water, filters out harmful contaminants then splits it into alkaline and acid waters. The theory is ... our bodies PH needs to be balanced.

Research trials are just beginning here in the U.S. on whether ionized water is any better than regular water. But Pablo says he saw health benefits immediately.

Most importantly, his high cholesterol dropped within three weeks which stunned even his doctor.

Pablo Lucero: "My cholesterol it dropped from 228 to 221."

What's This About Fluoride??

Fluoride Linked to #1 Cause of Death in New Research

Groundbreaking new research has linked sodium fluoride to cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. Researchers found that fluoride consumption directly stimulates the hardening of your arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis that is highly correlated with the #1 killer. Sodium fluoride is currently added to the water supply of many cities worldwide, despite extreme opposition from health professionals and previous studies linking it to decreased IQ and infertility.

In their research, scientists examined the relationship between fluoride intake and the hardening (calcification) of the arteries. Studying more than 60 patients, the researchers found a significant correlation between fluoride consumption and the calcification of your arteries. Published in the January edition of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine Communications, the research çLink) highlights the fact that mass fluoride exposure may be to blame for the cardiovascular disease epidemic that takes more lives each year than cancer. In 2008, cardiovascular killed 17 million people.

According to the authors of the study: “The coronary fluoride uptake value in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than in patients without cardiovascular events.”

Amazingly, this is not the first report to come out on the dangers of water fluoridation, however the United States government along with other nations have allowed for the continued fluoridation of the public water supply despite these key findings. In fact, the U.S. government has even gone on record stating that a reduction in water fluoridation needs to occur following the results of a massive study that found water fluoridation affected cognitive function to the point of lowering the IQ of children. It turns out that the announcement was little more than a public relations stunt to curtail the massive wave of activism that followed the findings.

Government Admits Dangers Yet Continues to Pump Fluoride Into Your Water Supply

Over 24 other studies have unanimously concluded that fluoride negatively impacts cognitive function. In addition to these 24 studies focusing on cognition, over 100 animal studies have linked fluoride to an increase in male infertility, diabetes, and a whole host of other health problems. In the latest study on cognition, it was found that that 28% of the children who lived in an area where fluoride levels were low achieved the highest test scores. This means that the children exposed to less fluoride scored normal or advanced, while only 8% of fluoridated children did the same.

In fact, the safety precautions regarding sodium fluoride (çLink) are quite telling themselves:

Risk and Safety Phrases.
§ R25 – Toxic if swallowed.
§ R32 – Contact with acid liberates very toxic gas.
§ R36/38 – Irritating to skin and eyes.
§ S1/2 – Keep locked up and out of reach of children.
§ S22 – Do not breathe dust.
§ S36 – Wear suitable protective clothing.
§ S45 - In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label whenever possible.)

But what about cavity prevention?
Since 1962 the government has recommended fluoride levels between 0.7 and 1.2 milligrams per liter in the nations drinking water. Touted as an excellent cavity blocker, fluoride has been praised for its alleged power to prevent tooth decay and boost oral health. Research has now revealed that fluoride, the very substance that is supposed to prevent tooth decay, actually does nothing to prevent against cavities. In fact, vitamin D has been found to be significantly more effective in cavity prevention without the extreme side effects. Instead of damaging your body, vitamin D slashes your risk of just about everything fluoride consumption causes.

According to the latest numbers, over 72 percent of Americans drink water treated with fluoride. Is it any wonder that cardiovascular disease rates are off the charts? Perhaps most concerning is the fact that fluoride does not even prevent cavities, which is the very reason legislators have pushed to keep it in the public water supply despite the links to deadly disease. Even if fluoride was found to prevent cavities, would it be worth the adverse effects?Fluoride should be completely removed from the international water supply as it is a threat to public health. Until the proper legislation is passed, acquiring a high-quality water filter that removes fluoride is vital for the health perseverance of you and your family. Cancer & Fluoridation Fluoridation is a highly emotional and controversial issue in which it’s difficult to separate fact from fiction. The bottom line is: Is it effective? Is it safe?

Dr. Dean Burk, who has spent more than fifty years in cancer research, mainly at the National Cancer Institute states: "More people have died in the last thirty years from cancer connected with fluoridation than all the military deaths in the entire history of the United States." (1)

Fluoride toxicity has been linked to genetic damage in plants and animals, birth defects in humans, especially Down’s syndrome, plus a whole series of allergic reactions ranging from fatigue, headaches, urinary tract irritations, diarrhea and many others. (2) The Marier Rose study, "Environmental Fluoride- 1977’ by the National Research Council of Canada documents the mutagenic and chromosomal effects of fluoride as well as the evidence that chronic intake of fluoride interferes with the metabolism of calcium, magnesium, manganese and vitamin C.

If all these problems can arise from too much fluoride, why do we have artificial fluoridation? Why do we add sodium fluoride to our drinking water?

The main reason given by pro-fluoridationists is that up to 1 part per million (ppm) or I mg/L per liter of fluoride will reduce tooth decay. However, no genuine scientific research has supported this contention.

Court testimony from a Illinois trial on fluoridation reveals: Although attempts have been made, the United states Center for Disease Control, and the British Ministry of Health admit that no laboratory experiment has ever shown that one ppm fluoride of the drinking water Is effective in reducing tooth decay. Furthermore, they admit that there are no epldemlologicai studies or humans showing fluoridation reduces tooth decay that would meet the minimum requirement of scientific objectivity." After a forty day trial, Judge Ronald A. Newman ruled, "a conclusion that fluoride is a safe and effective means of promoting dental health cannot be supported by this record. (3) A full account of fluoridation and how it has become a political instead of a scientific issue is fully documented in Dr John Yiamouyiannis" book, Fluoride: The Ageing Factor. (4)

Dr. Burk believes the most that can be given to the fluoridation argument is that up to the age of puberty there may be a temporary delay of about one tooth decay. When you look at the problems fluoride may or does cause, this insignificant temporary reduction in tooth decay is meaningless. Let’s face it, tooth decay is not a fluoride deficiency disease. In most cases, tooth decay is caused by malnutrition and poor dietary habits, especially the over consumption of sugar and refined foods.

Yet, how is it that we have been led to believe that fluoride in drinking water results in less tooth decay? I think this confusion originated in 1942 in Hereford Texas, which was heralded as a ‘town without a toothache.’ Drinking water in Hereford Texas had 2.3 to 3.2 ppm of natural fluoride. But it also had generous amounts of calcium, magnesium and other minerals. The pro-fluoridationists pointed to the fluoride as the reason for low levels of dental cavities. But Dr. G. W. Heard a Hereford dentist for thirty five years, called attention to the hard drinking water as the possible reason for the benefits. "The damage fluoride does "Dr Heard stated "is far greater than the good it may appear to accomplish." (1)

Colorado Springs, Colorado also has a high level of fluoride in its drinking water 2.5 ppm, yet has a very high level of cavities. The Colorado Springs drinking water is very soft, low in calcium and magnesium. The water in Hereford Texas was very hard high in calcium and magnesium. The beneficial element is hardness not fluoride levels.

Worldwide, there Is very little fluoridation! In fact, many countries that previously adopted fluoridation have stopped. A few examples: Germany has no Fluoridation. It was discontinued in 1971 for health and legal reasons after eighteen years of experiments. Spain has no fluoridation. It is forbidden by law. France has no Fluoridation It was never considered essential to good health. Sweden has no fluoridation. It is forbidden by law…It was discontinued in 1969 after a ten year experimental program.

The World Health Organization (WHO) was asked by the Swedish government to produce evidence to support its earlier claim that fluoridation was safe. No evidence was produced. "One tenth of all cancer deaths in this country," Dr. Burk states, can be shown to be linked to foundation of public drinking water." That’s 40,000 extra cancer deaths a year. It’s ten times the number who die from asbestos induced cancer and exceeds deaths from breast cancer. Yet, 40% of the people in the U.S. continue to drink fluoridated water.

High level of fluoride, artificial or natural can be harmful to our health. "The softer the water the more fluoride passes through the intestinal wall." (3) Experiments show that when the water is hard less fluoride is absorbed. Therefore if you are drinking a hard water, the harmful effects of fluoride will be minimized.

if you want healthy teeth, correct your diet, drink hard water and avoid the addition of sodium fluoride to your drinking water. Also, there are special filters which can remove fluorides yet leave the hardness in the water. Kangen Water As an Antioxidant

and Its Advantages over the Competition!

Without the platinum you will not get the true healing powers of electrolysis water. It is actually a well-known fact in the production of electricity from a hydrogen fuel cell that platinum acts as a catalyst causing the hydrogen gas in ionized water to release its electrons. When applied to water ionization through electrolysis it explains the creation of the antioxidant properties of Kangen WaterTM. This vitally important phenomenon happens based on 2 significant factors:

As most of you already know, ionization happens when water, HOH, dissociates into H2 and OH-. The most efficient and effective way to accomplish this utilizes electricity. When electricity passes through water this dissociation happens quickly. The greater the electrical charge and the longer the water is exposed to this electrical charge, the more complete the ionization.

That is why water ionizing units use metal plates. Metal plates conduct electricity, and that electrical charge is what causes the dissociation of the water molecules. This brings up several points to consider:

1. Some metals are better electrical conductors than others. For instance, some manufacturers use aluminum, stainless steel, copper, white gold or metallic alloys. The most reputable companies use titanium and platinum.

1. During the electrolysis process these metals give up varying amounts of their metal into the water.

2. Titanium is chosen because it is a very dense metal. This makes it a good conductor of electricity over a very long period of time. Additionally, its density keeps it from readily breaking down in water. That is one of the reasons it is the preferred metal used in medical grade screws and pins to hold bones together. However when it does break down, it is considered toxic to the body.

3. Platinum is chosen because, unlike titanium, in minute amounts it is actually a trace mineral that has many health benefits.

4. The more heavily coated the plates, the longer it will take to break down the platinum and expose the titanium. (Of course the heavier the coating, the greater the manufacturing costs.)

5. [This is undoubtedly THE most important factor regarding platinum which I did not know in 2007 – it is the contribution of Dr. Curt Eastin’s endless hours of research. It is actually a well-known fact in the production of electricity from a hydrogen fuel cell that platinum acts as a catalyst causing the hydrogen gas in ionized water to release its electrons. What about other manufacturer’s Mineral Charged Filters

Minerals automatically ionize in when dissolved in water. This does not require any additional processing or electricity to complete the process. It is simply a natural chemical reaction. Ionizing inorganic minerals does not make them more absorbable by the human body. The more minerals that are added to the water, the greater the load and the harder the body has to work to eliminate them.

What about the calcium sulfite in the filters?

Enagic’s filters accomplish this by using 3 components (Fig. 4, 5):

1. Calcium Sulfite (CaSO3) used for its biocidal or disinfecting properties

2. Antibacterial granular activated carbon

3. Mechanical filter that filters to 5 microns

I must point out that if these companies actually understood the process of ionization through electrolysis they would never use such weak arguments.

Calcium Sulfite is a naturally occurring mineral CaSO3. It is used in Enagic’s filters as a disinfectant to clean the water before it enters the carbon filter. It does not tend to combine easily with water and when ionized it will break into –Calcium ions, and +Sulfur ions.

Remember the Calcium and Sulfur in their ionized forms they are separated by charge and the sulfur ion is discharged in the acid waters. The Calcium is present in the alkaline water.

Can I over alkalize?

There are NO diseases or dis-ease associated with being too alkaline. You cannot be sick and alkaline. Sodium bicarbonate is produced by the body as the #1 buffer of dietary and/or metabolic acid to maintain the alkalinity of the blood and then the tissues. In the body, it takes 20 molecules of sodium bicarbonate to buffer or neutralize 1 part of carbonic acid in order to maintain a blood and/or tissue pH of 7.35 to 7.4. How can the alkaline work with the stomach hydrochloric acid?

It is important to remember that large amounts of hydrochloric acid are present in the stomach primarily when food is there.
